LADY SWAMPTHING BLACK T-SHIRT

I was revisiting my Saga of The Swamp Thing Comics and really struck by the colors. Vibrant greens, pinks, purples…had to sketch up a Lady Swamp Thing.

I wouldn’t have cared much for Swamp Thing’s story if I hadn’t read Alan Moore’s recreation of the character’s origin in Saga OTST. Ever think of comics as philosophy books? In the Anatomy lesson, Swamp thing is autopsied and scientists find he is a sentient being…but was never the human being he believed himself to be (Alec Holland). Swamp Thing awakens to this cruel new reality (and Pissed that he was gunned down and poked and prodded) and has a whole different vibe for the rest of the series, right down to his angry, red eyes. Goddam I love a monster with an existential crisis!
